Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is offering a World Languages Institute in summer 2008. Located on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus, the institute includes graduate-level programs for K-12 World Language Teachers. To address the challenge of teacher preparation for proficiency-oriented instruction, the institute offers core courses in current foreign language teaching methodology that reflect the New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards and the National Standards for Second Language Teaching. These core courses are open to teachers of any foreign language. In addition, special topics courses focusing on civilization, culture, grammar, linguistics, and literature are offered to language teachers of French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

The World Languages Institute
is a registered New Jersey Professional Development Provider, and credits acquired through the institute are applicable to the New Jersey 100-Hour Professional Development requirement or may be accepted for state certification.
